Training

Background:

Within MOSAICS, training was provided to GPs and practice nurses. The GP training was undertaken in three two-hour sessions and a single one-hour session, a four-day training course for practice nurses was delivered. Training was designed to equip healthcare professionals to deliver the model osteoarthritis consultation (MOAC) and to support and enable patients to self-manage their osteoarthritis, to undertake goal setting and undertake pain management.

Use in JIGSAW-E

When implementing JIGSAW-E within the UK, capacity of primary care organisations to release practice nurses for four-days training presented a barrier. Therefore training consisted of a practice visit, which delivered information to GPs and other practice staff, and a two-day practice nurse training course. This was subsequently developed to include other professionals and the length was adapted to match with local healthcare organisational requirements.
